Our story
Welcome to Deerhide Scotland. We are Lynda and David, and our journey into creating peaceful Scottish holiday homes began with a desire to share the serene beauty of the countryside with guests from all over the world.
Trading city life for countryside peace
In 1997, we decided to trade the bustle of central Edinburgh for the tranquil surroundings of South Cobbinshaw. Overlooking breathtaking Cobbinshaw Loch and the rolling Pentland Hills, we knew instantly that we had found our forever home.
As a qualified architect, Lynda saw endless potential in the property's large steading and stone tractor shed. While the massive renovation project brought plenty of challenges and hard work, by 2009 we officially moved into our newly transformed family home alongside our two boys, Finn and Keir.
We love breathing new life into historic spaces and sharing the beauty of Scotland with our visitors. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our carefully restored retreats!
The birth of our holiday cottages
- Gairnshiel Cottage: Having relocated to the main steading, we couldn't bear to keep the stunning views from Gairnshiel Cottage to ourselves. We transformed our former home into our very first holiday rental, allowing guests to experience the same peaceful landscapes we fell in love with.
- 22 Biggiesknowe (Peebles): Spurred by the success of Gairnshiel, we decided to expand. In 2015, having fallen in love with the Borders town of Peebles over years of visits, we purchased 22 Biggiesknowe—a property that had sat on the market for over a year—and brought it completely back to life.
- Bridgend Cottage: This beautiful property holds a special place in our hearts. Purchased in 2000 as a derelict cottage under a demolition order, it sat in an area where Lynda spent a happy childhood. For years, we used it as a rustic summer bolthole with no heating and pumped well water. Exactly 25 years later, we were finally able to give it the full architectural restoration it deserved. Today, it stands proudly as a stunning, red-roofed, white-washed cottage.

Thoughtfully designed with architect-led touches, warm interiors, and quiet corners to unwind, each cottage offers a sanctuary away from the demands of everyday life. Whether you are exploring nearby hills or enjoying a quiet morning coffee, your comfort is at the heart of what we do.
